Properties:

Easily soluble in water and most organic solvents, even at high concentrations, it can form a clear and transparent solution. The aqueous solution is nonionic and does not require neutralization. It can be used as a stabilizer for emulsions, dispersions, and suspensions. It is compatible with most inorganic salts, resins, and the majority of excipients. The film formed from its aqueous solution has high hygroscopicity and adhesiveness. Tablets formed with PVP dissolve quickly in the digestive tract, causing the tablets to expand locally and disintegrate, releasing drug fragments, which in turn accelerates the dissolution and absorption of the medication, playing a role in rapidly exerting the drug's effect. PVP is widely used in pharmaceutical tablets and granules.

Applications

Function

Main applications

Binder

Preferred binder for solid dosage forms, suitable for wet granulation, dry granulation, direct compression, and fluidized bed granulation. Particularly suitable for rapid-release formulations and anhydrous processes, as well as for drugs with poor water solubility, sensitivity to water, and poor compressibility. It effectively improves the compressibility of granules, enhances the binding and hardness of tablets, and promotes drug release.

Solubilizer

Enhance the solubility of poorly soluble drug formulations and improve bioavailability.

Dispersing or co-grinding agent.

As a solid dispersion carrier for the solubilization of poorly soluble drugs, forming co-precipitates or co-ground solid dispersions with poorly soluble drugs.

Active ingredient stabilizer.

Forming amorphous dispersed complexes with the drug to enhance drug stability.

Suspending agent.

Enhancing the suspension stability of oral liquid formulations.

Coating film-forming agent

Coating material auxiliary film-former and pore-forming agent, and pigment dispersant; reducing the viscosity of the coating solution, enhancing the flexibility of the film and the binding ability to the surface of the tablet core, improving the dispersibility and extensibility of lake pigments and light-blocking agents.

Crystallization inhibitor and thickening agent.

Used as a viscosity regulator in liquid formulations and as a solubilizing stabilizer for drugs; extends the duration of drug action and provides lubrication.

Pore-forming agent.

Used in sustained-release and taste-masking solid dosage forms to create water-soluble channels, regulating the dissolution rate and release rate of the drug.

Others

Capsule flow aid; stabilizer for enzymes and heat-sensitive drugs; moisturizing, thickening, and film-forming agent for topical formulations; various foods and health supplements.
