KoVidone®  VA64 

Properties:The aqueous solution is nonionic and does not require neutralization; capable of forming a hard, glossy, water-washable film with elastic properties; the viscosity and sensitivity to water both vary with different VP/VA ratios; the powder has less hygroscopicity than Povidone and is soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, with a glass transition temperature lower than povidone, capable of forming a transparent water-soluble film.

Product Specifications:KoVidone^® VA64 is a water-soluble copolymer synthesized from N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and vinyl acetate in approximately a 60:40 ratio.

Product Performance:VA64 has good flow and plasticity, and the vinyl acetate groups introduce a certain degree of hydrophobicity to the molecule, making it an excellent binder for direct compression and dry granulation processes. VA64 has been developed as an excellent additive for basic film-forming agents in aqueous and organic solvent formulations; it is also suitable for coating sensitive-to-moisture tablet cores.

When used in conjunction with Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose (HPMC), VA64 can increase the elasticity of the film and its adhesion to the tablet core. When VA64 is used in sufficient quantities, it can increase the gloss of the tablet coating. It reduces the viscosity of HPMC, enhances the plasticity of cellulose films, reduces film brittleness, and decreases the amount of plasticizer needed.

It has strong plasticity, which can give tablets good hardness and is an excellent dry binder for direct compression processes;

Suitable for drugs with poor compressibility, improving drug compressibility to meet the requirements of direct compression processes;

An excellent binder for the preparation of effervescent and dispersible tablets;

Suitable for priming plain tablet isolation layers, taste-masking formulations, and as a pore-forming agent for sustained-release coating films;

Possesses good plasticity, suitable for the preparation of drug solid dispersions by hot melt extrusion;

Capable of forming high molecular weight complexes with drug molecules in water through hydrogen bonding, used as a skeletal material for gastric retention tablets, with good retention properties, extending drug release time, improving drug absorption, and enhancing bioavailability.

Applications:

As a binder suitable for wet and dry granulation processes and powder direct compression processes for tablets, improving the compressibility of granules;

As a film-forming agent for tablet film coating;

As a pore-forming agent for taste-masking formulations and sustained-release formulations;

As a solubilizer for solid dispersion processes, etc.
